The Lone Canary is the Americana duo of Jesse Fox and Heather Camacho, based in Rockford, Illinois. Close vocal harmonies, acoustic guitar, fiddle, and foot percussion anchor songs that explore love, loss, faith, doubt, and the resolve to keep going.

Their connection reaches back well before the band’s formation: Fox began learning guitar at age 12 from Camacho’s father, Mark Reed. Friends and fellow musicians since high school, Fox and Camacho officially formed The Lone Canary in 2014, bringing years of shared experience to a partnership built on trust and musical instinct.

Drawing inspiration from Jason Isbell, The Civil Wars, Watchhouse, Noah Gundersen, and Noah Kahan, they perform both as an acoustic duo and as a five-piece band with electric guitar, bass, and drums. Their live shows make room for the stories behind the songs, with the interplay between their voices carrying through quiet acoustic passages and fuller arrangements.

The Lone Canary has shared stages with Three Dog Night, Over the Rhine, Cory Chisel, Pieta Brown, Lilly Hiatt, and Nathan Graham. Their performance credits include Mile of Music, Knoxville’s WDVX Blue Plate Special, and WNIJ’s Sessions from Studio A.

Their third full-length album, Dime Store Horses (2025), followed 2020’s Leave the Gray with songs shaped by grief, memory, resilience, and the tension between hope and hard experience. Fox and Camacho produced and recorded the album at City Stage Studios, with co-production by Jon Martinez. The record earned an 8/10 review from Americana UK, while B-Sides & Badlands called it “one of 2025’s best albums.”

Inductees of the Rockford Area Music Industry (RAMI) Hall of Fame, the duo received three Critic’s Choice honors at the 2026 RAMI Awards: Album of the Year for Dime Store Horses, Song of the Year for “Kingdom Come,” and Composer of the Year for Fox and Camacho.

Released in July 2026, Nickel Store Ponies (Reimagined Selections from Dime Store Horses) revisits five songs from the album in more intimate arrangements rooted in the duo’s folk and Americana influences. The companion EP offers another view of the material, placing their harmonies and storytelling at the center.
